If you decide to move forward with dental implant surgery, you and your orthodontist will thoroughly discuss what will happen during the procedure. You will need to be prepared to have some different tests and x-rays, along with a thorough explanation about what to expect before, during, and after the surgery. The orthodontist will check your jaw to see where your bite is currently so that the new teeth can be placed into a position that will best benefit your oral health.
Expect Little Pain During The Surgery
A major concern about getting dental implants is the expectation of pain after the surgery. If you are a squeamish dental patient already, the pain can be quite an unnerving part of the entire process. Fortunately, the surgery is designed so that you will not feel anything that is happening in your mouth. You may feel some vibrations as the orthodontist works in your mouth while he or she is implanting the new teeth. You will be given local anesthetic much like you would for regular dental fillings.
