Understanding The Importance of Sedation Dentistry

Hey, my name is Shelly Katalgo. My love for sedation dentistry started in high school. My best friend had a severe fear of going to the dentist and I wanted to help her feel better about it. Although I always enjoyed my dental visits, I felt bad that she struggled so much with going to hers. My parents taught me about sedation dentistry and I instantly dreamed of becoming a dental professional. I wanted to help kids like my friend stay fear free throughout their appointments by using gentle techniques and professional medications. Although I opted to follow a different career path, my passion for dentistry remained throughout the years. I will update my site with developments in this industry as soon as they are reported. I will also discuss the benefits of sedation dentistry in detail. Thanks for visiting. I hope you come back soon.

Veneers Vs Bonding: Which Do You Need To Restore Your Smile?

Franklin Steward

If you want to change the shape, appearance, or color of your teeth, you have two options: veneers or bonding. Both of these options can often get you to the appearance that you desire, but they differ in a couple of important ways. Here's what you need to know.

Durability: Veneers Last Longer than Bonding

In general, a veneer is going to last longer than bonding. A veneer fits over your teeth, bonding directly to them and changing their appearance. Bonding, on the other hand, is an epoxy solution that is directly affixed to the tooth. Eventually this can chip and wear down.

Due to this inherent difference, veneers tend to be more durable and less likely to break down. They are made of a harder, more refined material, whereas bonding has to be set and hardened onto the tooth.

Cost: Bonding is More Affordable

Veneers involve a multi-step process that first requires grinding down the tooth slightly, making the veneers, and applying them. Bonding is a faster process that involves less work. Molds are made for the tooth, the bonded material is attached, and then it is cured.

Bonding is generally going to cost less, especially if you want to have all of your teeth done at the same time. However, only your insurance company may know exactly how much either process is going to cost.

Appearance: Veneers Generally Have the Edge

The appearance of both veneers and bonding will relate to the dentist and clinic where you have the procedure done. However, veneers are usually more authentic and more attractive. Veneers are a higher-end product, and they are ordered in to specifications, making it easier to match colors and sizes. Bonding has to be done on-the-fly, which means the results can look more unnatural.

Bonding can also discolor over time. If you have bonded teeth for a long time, they can eventually yellow. To treat this, the bonded material may need to be whitened, much like natural teeth would be. Veneers aren't going to discolor in the same way, though they can still crack or chip over time.

In general, you should know that veneers are more expensive but usually more durable. At the same time, they do require more work to be done. Bonding is faster and less expensive, but it can also have a less refined appearance and may not last as long. Your dentist can tell you more.
