Understanding The Importance of Sedation Dentistry

Hey, my name is Shelly Katalgo. My love for sedation dentistry started in high school. My best friend had a severe fear of going to the dentist and I wanted to help her feel better about it. Although I always enjoyed my dental visits, I felt bad that she struggled so much with going to hers. My parents taught me about sedation dentistry and I instantly dreamed of becoming a dental professional. I wanted to help kids like my friend stay fear free throughout their appointments by using gentle techniques and professional medications. Although I opted to follow a different career path, my passion for dentistry remained throughout the years. I will update my site with developments in this industry as soon as they are reported. I will also discuss the benefits of sedation dentistry in detail. Thanks for visiting. I hope you come back soon.

Getting Dental Veneers: What To Expect

Franklin Steward

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic option that can improve the appearance of your smile, especially if you have crooked, chipped, or stained teeth. Specifically, dental veneers are "shells" that fit over your existing teeth to cover up teeth with imperfections. This is a much cheaper and less invasive option for beautifying your smile than other procedures, such as partial dentures or dental implants.

If you're thinking about getting dental veneers, your first step should be to schedule an appointment with a dentist. During a consultation, he or she will be able to determine whether you're a viable candidate for veneers. If you are, it'll also be helpful for you to know what to expect moving forward.

Types of Dental Veneers

Because dental veneers are considered a cosmetic procedure, they're typically not covered by dental insurance. If you'll be paying out-of-pocket, you should understand that there are two different types of veneers—and their pricing can be drastically different. Composite veneers are made of a composite resin and typically last for several years before needing replaced. These are much less expensive than porcelain veneers, which are designed to last for a decade or longer.

Preparation and Placement

Regardless of the type of veneer you choose, your veneer procedure will be completed over a series of appointments. During the initial consultation, your dentist will make sure you're a good candidate for veneers and take X-rays. From there, your dentist will need to trim a small layer of enamel off the tooth and take an impression of it so your veneers can be custom-made.

Once your veneers are in, you'll come in for another appointment to have them placed. During this appointment, your dentist will slightly file down the surface of your tooth, which will improve adhesion. A resin cement is used to adhere the veneer to your tooth, and a UV light dries and sets it almost immediately. From there, you'll be all set! Your dentist will likely ask you to come in for a follow-up appointment in a few weeks to make sure no adjustments are needed.

Caring for Dental Veneers

Taking care of your dental veneers will help you avoid the need for early replacement, which can save you money. In general, you should treat your veneers just as you would your real teeth by brushing and flossing regularly. Just be careful to avoid abrasive toothpastes, which can scratch the surface of veneers and make them more prone to staining. You can also prevent staining by avoiding certain beverages, such as black coffee and red wine. From there, you can enjoy a more beautiful smile and greater confidence with your dental veneers!
